About Langmeil Wines
Today, the winery grounds form a captivating pocket of Australian history, now owned by the Lindner family, whose own mark on the Barossa landscape spans six-generations of regional farming, food, community, and now wine.
Recognising the rarity of this shiraz vineyard, the site was dedicated to Auricht (who fled his native Prussia to escape religious persecution) and named Freedom, from which family winemaker Paul Lindner crafts ‘The Freedom 1843’ Shiraz – a single vineyard, old vine wine, which holds the honor of ‘Excellent’ in the Langton’s Fine Wine Classification VI.
“Black fruit, liquorice, baking spices, toasty oak, even some perfume. It’s full-bodied, black fruits, again that juicy liquorice character, balanced acidity though leaning towards a gentle tang, dense tightly-knit tannin, some tobacco and earthiness, closing with a finish of excellent length. Has depth and impact, though doesn’t lurch into the clumsy zone. Very good.
